Tang Hall ‘Reaching Out’ is a 3-year project, delivered in partnership with North Yorkshire Youth (NYY), The Conservation Volunteers (TCV), and Choose2Youth and is funded by The Lottery Communities Fund. The project seeks to work with young people and families in the Tang Hall area, encouraging more involvement and better use of green spaces in the locality. The project focusses mostly on Hull Rd Park, which is one of the biggest parks in York.
The project runs various regular groups across the area, including a Youth Club, Girls group, Youth drop-in, Young Rangers, and volunteering session in the park. The project has also launched a community Duke of Edinburgh award this year and delivers family events of varying sizes throughout the year.
It is really rewarding to be able to offer such a varied range of activities at our regular sessions, in line with young people’s expressed interests and needs. These activities include environmental art and crafts, scavenger hunts and park trails, preparing, cooking and sharing food, sports, games, woodwork, planting and gardening.
Staff can be seen out and about regularly in the community engaging with young people, residents and professionals. Through this work, we can forge strong connections and trusted relationships to help to promote community cohesion, whilst making positive improvements to the parks.
